Membership in the Association is open to persons
who live, worship, or own property within the Union Park Neighborhood
Association’s boundaries as shown on the accompanying map.
The Union Park Neighborhood boundaries are Hull
Avenue on the North, the railroad tracks on the East, Washington
Avenue on the South and the Des Moines River and 2nd Street on
the West.
The UPNA is a volunteer neighborhood
association. No one receives any payment or salary. Without the
generous membership support of community volunteers, our mission
and community activities would not be possible. Funding for
projects and activities is made possible from our contributing
memberships, grants and special projects, such as the sale of
community calendars and other merchandise. We are pleased to
report that our membership dues are the least expensive of ANY
other neighborhood association in the Des Moines!
Membership Support Categories
Family Member ~ $10/Year
- A Family Member believes in UPNA’s mission and wants to see
UPNA improve the neighborhood.
- A Supporting member takes a more active financial role, allowing
UPNA to have a stronger presence in the neighborhood
and allowing us to organize neighborhood events.
Business Member~
$30/year
- A Business Membership allows UPNA to be involved
with larger, long-term projects and also contributes to
the stability of the association.
- Businesses will receive a standard advertisement space
on the website for business recognition at no charge.
Membership Renewal:
Annual membership renewal dates will be on a calendar-year basis, being due
on or before January 1st of each year.
General Notes:
- Each member may cast one vote per question at the general meetings.
- Members can pre-pay their annual membership for up to five
(5) years at once.
- Any member can contribute more than the minimum membership
fees, if desired. Please designate on membership
checks and membership form if the extra is for multiple years
or an additional contribution to support the UPNA.
- Exceptions can be made to the membership fees. If a member or potential
member needs to pay less than the minimum, just ask the Membership
Chair about it; we want to be as inclusive as possible.
- All memberships are “Household” memberships; meaning only
one yearly fee per residential address is required. All
of the members of that household become members.
- Businesses can designate a proxy representative to attend
general meetings and/or steering committee meetings on
their behalf. The total
number of representatives will be determined at the discretion of the
Membership Chair. If any one of the representatives is present
at a steering committee meeting, that business will be noted
as attending the meeting.
